The Inner West has some of Sydney’s oldest housing stock. Terraces in Newtown and Marrickville, workers’ cottages in Leichhardt, and heritage homes in Balmain mean a lot of this plumbing predates today’s standards.
Old vitreous clay or cast iron drains are common, and they crack or get invaded by tree roots more often than modern PVC pipe does. Narrow subfloor access and shared party walls change how a repair gets done. We work with this kind of housing often, so we know roughly what to expect before we lift a manhole cover.
If a property is heritage-listed, council rules can limit what gets altered on the street-facing side. We plan work around those restrictions rather than finding out about them halfway through a job.
The jobs we’re called out for most across the Inner West.
Moving a toilet or shower in an older terrace usually means rerouting drainage that was never meant to move. We plan that before any tiling starts. See Kitchen & Bathroom Renovations.
Shared risers, a line between common property and your lot, and usually a report for the owners corporation before work is approved. See Strata & Real Estate Plumbing.
Usually tree roots working into old clay pipe under a terrace’s front or back garden. We clear them with high-pressure jet blasting, which removes grease, roots and debris without damaging the pipe. See Blocked Drains.
A slow leak under a slab or behind a party wall can run for months before it shows. We use thermal imaging, acoustic sensors and pressure testing to find the source without pulling up floors on a guess.
We believe in transparent pricing. While some jobs may require a call-out fee, we always discuss costs upfront, so there are no hidden surprises once the work is underway. Every plumber we send out is licensed and insured.
